I'm using version 3.6.45
I think V3.6.63 had many issues fixed so you should try that one.

computational quirks that can hardly be replicated in a Win32 version
Yes I seem to remember that was some of the things I had to fix. And why I do remember there were some turns that I tested that had some issues.Â
@bitmask I've updated but it's still happening. I am only playing one race so the ships are numbering 1,2,3,4,5 as I create them. Starting at ship 1 hitting the up or down arrows take me to 3 and 5 only - no even numbers. Starting at ship2 the top arrow takes me to ship5, the bottom arrow takes me to 4. It's skipping consecutive numbers but wrapping around when it hits the lowest and highest ids.
@bitmask Sorry for all the replies, but I wanted to show you my shiplist, and the results of scrolling through the numbers.
it's still happening
Are you using the keyboard shortcuts? Or click on the button with the mouse? Is this in the ship screen are you in?
Are you using the starmap in Winplan at all? If not I can give you a develoment version to try, but it's starmap is not in a state to search items at the moment.
@bitmask Hi BM! I'm in the ship screen using the up and down arrows to scroll through my ships. I do use the starmap.Â
Â
I've also noticed that in the planet screen, there's no "X" button to transfer to another planet.Â
Â
@gilgamesh I'm not sure how you transfer from one planet to another? What add-ons are you using for that 😜Â
Ships do have an X when they are in orbit around a planet though. Is that what you are looking for?
Â
@bitmask Sorry - I probably didn't explain myself very well, so by way of an example: I need duranium at a planet so I want to look around to see the best nearby planet to send a freighter.  There used to be an ability within the planet view to click on another planet and click an "X" button to immediately switch to that planet in the planet screen. I'm attaching a screenshot from one of your older versions to illustrate. I don't see that option on the latest version, but I've been wrong and stupid before now and definitely have the potential to be doing that now.
I'm not trying to be a beta tester, by the way, I'm just trying to run a couple of test games to re-acquaint myself with the game. Should I contact you directly with these things I'm finding? Sorry if I'm doing this wrong.

@gilgamesh Don't be sorry. Those are good questions. It's been a while so I also had to go and make sure myself.Â
The X was removed around 2012 with these proposed changes. The good news is while the actual button is gone the feature is still there (and improved). You can now just double click on a planet and it will switch to that planet.Â
@bitmask OK good to know, thanks!  So the only concern is the problem with skipping ships with consecutive numbers when scrolling through the fleet.

Just my 2 cents: 'X' is one of the features I use most often in my clients. The reason is: it's a single easy-to-reach keystroke for a useful function: go from a ship to where-it-will-be. I'm playing with 99% keyboard.
Now if you're playing mouse-centric, a button labelled 'X' is indeed not very useful. If you're already pushing the pointer around, you can as well point it at the object you want to go to. So, removing the 'X' means: you're positioning Winplan as a mouse-centric client. There's nothing wrong with that, but there is some audience (i.e. me) that is happier with keyboards.

@streu those are very valid points. In Winplan you have to click with the mouse on the planet to get that focus. But what happened you also had to click the X button on the screen. So we replaced that with a double click and removed the actual button on the screen.Â
You can use the keyboard to move the pointer on the starmap, but that will take ages to get the the planet. So that is not really an option most players used.
I was under the impression that we only removed the button and not the keyboard shortcut, but it seems that was removed at the same time. Quick fix to do.Â
PS. This is about the X in the planet screen we are talking about, yes?
Would it help you if I zip up and email you my VPwork file?
I can replicate the issue.
Have you tried the + and - buttons? They don't seem to have the same skip behaviour. The arrow buttons do.
