So do we have any classic VGA Planets hosts out there these days? When I went offline in late 2017 Starbase was still around as well High Command. I don't recall any reliable other hosts at that point.

https://planetscentral.com/ right now does PHost only. One problem is still that games take long to fill. There's a long list of game setups on the wishlist (Starbase Plus, FLAK, TimList-or-PList vs allies-or-no-allies vs XP-or-no-XP, Cactus, Unnatural Selection, Newbie-only vs pros-only etc.), and using Tim-Host is but one of them. Thus, for now, I'm setting up whichever is easier.

Stefan! So nice to see you! Let me clarify, I was referring to TimHost hosting. We had our share of Phost games here as well as Bitmask used to run his Brass Tacks and Unnatural Selection scenarios. Glad to see you're still out there. 🙂

I stopped hosting a short time after you because of a general lack of players to fill the games, because of reliable turn income and because of the technical efforts to keep the game running . And to be honest: I needed a break. I think I was the last one hosting Tinhost these days.
But if we can something started I will join. Still like old school 😉

When I looked at my archive I found that I still got a lot of stuff for hosting and playing. Lots of addons, player support files (like "Ground-pound-calculator"), different versions of Timhost and so on. If sth. is needed just tell me.

I'm slowly putting this site back together, real life is very busy at the moment and time is limited, however I wanted to have a place for old school players to talk and such.
I hadn't planned to take the hosting down when I did but after moving to a new city 7 years ago, a change in ISP that was blocking AutoTroll and a promotion at work... It just stole all of my time. Frankly I needed a break as well. I had been hosting on CM for a decade at that point and I think the site owned me more than I owned it. Also, I don't miss coming home and finding AutoTroll crashed. 🤬
I do miss the game though, and all the friends I made over the years as well.
Regarding player and host utils, maps, hosting programs and various versions, etc. I've got them. I just need to extract them from the drive they're on and add them to the site. Again, it's a work in progress. However I'm open to comparing notes, versions, etc.

I fully fully fully agree. My wife complained that when I returned from work my first action was going to the laptop to check if there is a mess with the hosting data. And looking back I must say she was right. Hosting took over my time, my thoughts and my heart...but still I miss it. 🤦♂️😁

If I can be of any assist just tell me. I thought about bringing up High Command again, but there are some technical issues that would have to be solved
- doing a new partition to run Win 7 (no good feelings about that though because of safety reasons)
- starting from nowhere how to collect mails with Autotroll
and so on.
And not knowing whether the effort is worthwhile and if I get some games filled I did not do so yet. Maybe it would be better to focus on one Project, which could be CM.

Sounds like we need to get an AI to run hosting for VGAP 😆
I'd love to see a modern take on a AutoTroll'ish hosting solution. Basically something similar to it but made for modern sensibilities, website integration etc. Unfortunately I do not have the skill set to accomplish that.

That was definitely me - looking for a host and not finding anything. I definitely agree about Nu. I'm cautiously optimistic about CM coming back and the old gang getting together again!

Nor do I, but I would also a fan of an updated version of AT. At that time I solved the problem (my biggest one) with SMTP-Auth by using a small application. Today it most probably it would be to get AT running in general on Win platforms.
