I've read somewhere that Tim has released the game into the wild and it's free now. I've tried the VGAP homepage and it's just a blank white page. ( http://www.planets4.com) Can anyone else verify the status of the game?

I don't know if new players can get the old client anymore.  I wonder if Tim gave/sold all the rights to Nu?

Tim still owns it last I heard. Apparently he's just concentrating on his Magic shows these days.

I found this but it's the old client so we need BM's adapted version.  I haven't looked into all the files and zips here, so be careful.  https://archive.org/download/vp320

I checked BMT Micro's VGAP page and it's gone as well.

Hi guys.

Anyone knows how to purchase a registered version from Tim? I'm just interested in acquiring a new reg.key file,

I used to play vgap extensively aorund 30 years ago, but I'm looking to buy further registered copies to play with my offspring and pass the torch.

Hi luisau,

I'm looking into it. Just recently getting back into this myself after a 6-7 year break and see that Tim's site is gone and so is the option to get the game at BMT Micro. I've written to Tim, so hopefully I'll get a reply if the email address I have is still good.

Hi,

if you make an account on PlanetsCentral and upload a result file, it will offer you a preinstalled key. It is primarily aimed at playing with the web interface (which still sucks), but you surely will find a way to use such a key with VPA or PCC/PCC2 🙂 (It does intentionally not work with planets.exe/Winplan.) I added that feature after seeing all means to buy a key gone (vgaplanets.com, planets4.com, bmtmicro, stc-play).

PS, if it seems I'm only here to propagate my site: well, that was the one that was active during the last years, so that's where some progress happens. I would really appreciate if Circus-Maximus returns to business for some fruitful competition! I reluctantly removed "support for Circus Maximus" from the PCC2NG todo list in 2021, but I will gladly add it again. Probably more fun to add then planets.nu 🙂

Hey Streu... Promote your site and new games all you want. In fact, I should make a separate area on here for doing just that.

Regarding my own hosting, if I do host games again you'll be one of the first to know. There's a lot and I do mean a lot of work involved to do that, and I don't have the time for it right now.... and I don't have the skill set to do it the way you do via online hosting, GUI, etc. My way would definitely be old school. Autotroll, RST's, TRN's.

I actually received permission from Tim in 2011 to create a new game based on his VGAP V3 code base, but I never had the time to do much with it.

The old players are just getting less and less. If we really want to draw new players I think we'll need to make the game play a bit faster. Most new kids don't have the patience to play 2 years on one game 😆

I think we only had one really mega game that lasted 2 years... Something like No Frills 7 or something like that....

I'm not sure who knows here besides Gilgamesh but we did lose Shardin in Dec of 2021. Had a heart attack and was gone.

@bitmask Hi BM - good to see you here!  You'll be glad to know that I used your installer and was able to get the 32 bit client up and running.  I'm experimenting with my own test game right now before (hopefully) the real thing starts.

It's sad to hear about Shardin 😔

Hey @Gilgamesh. Glad you managed to install Winplan. Hope it was easy.

Just checing my code repository. 10 year ago I was busy building a new version of THost that can run on Win32.

It was running turns, but I can't remember if it has any breaking issues outstanding...
You guys are talking me down memory lane.

Everything needs to be rebuilt... Wish Autotroll had been updated or released to freeware... but that never happened either.
